Geologisch ist diese Riede sehr komplex. In den tiefsten Bodenhorizonten findet sich Gföhler Gneis (mehr als 500 Mio. Jahre alt), darüber kalkhaltiges KarbonatKonglomerat der Hollenburg-Karlstetten-Formation (mehr als 15 Mio. Jahre alt) und im Oberboden Donauschotter und Löss.
