Ried Schreck is a dramatically steep vineyard behind the old town of Stein an der Donau. Riesling vines root in slate-like crystalline rock, more precisely amphibolite, searching for minerals. Watchmen from the Frauenberg Church in Stein used to "frighten" grape thieves from the nearby vineyard. First mentioned in 1360.
